Link 26 May Carmageddon remake Kickstarter!»

I fucking loved the original Carmageddon games, and so did you and you know it.

For those people who don’t know about the Carmageddon games.. Fuck o-

Alright restart, they’re incredibly violent racing games.

NOT CAR COMBAT, because everyone knows car combat games are the worst genre ever.

Look them up, anyway. If you like it, donate!

RUMOUR: Valve Working on New Console Dubbed “Steam Box”, To Be Announced at GDC
According to a report from The Verge, Valve is currently working on a new console project named the “Steam Box”.
According to the report, Valve is developing a platform for low-cost, micro-sized PCs that would give access to the vast library of games Steam has to offer, but in a more streamlined console-styled experience.
The report claims that the baseline models will include Intel Core i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU, and 8GBs of RAM. Valve is also reportedly developing a number of USB accessories such as a controller similar to Mad Catz’s MLG Pro Circuit Controller. Oh, and biometric sensors that can change in-game elements to match your behavior.
Apparently, the Steam Box is set to make an appearance at the Game Developers Conference, but the report says that Valve could hold off on the announcement until E3.

If this is true, anybody’s guess on which decade it will arrive in Australia.

Text 20 Feb 3 notes Review:: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

So here it is, physex’s first review! We’re starting off in style with Bethesda’s 2011 offering, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The Elder Scrolls series has been perhaps the brightest beacon of quality when it comes to action adventure role-playing games since its first release Arena back in 1994. Bethesda is known for crafting role-playing experiences that are oozing with believable and beautiful game worlds, characters, and stories. Players of 2006’s Oblivion will remember navigating beautiful landscapes, fighting brilliant, unforgettable foes, and being involved in one of the most epic stories ever seen in gaming. Rest easy, for Skyrim has delivered this and oh, so much more.

Click ‘read more’ to read the review!

My chosen place of residence..

First Impressions:

As soon as the initial blackness fades and you’re given a view of the game world it’s immediately apparent that a tremendous amount of effort has been put into giving the environment an amount of character that has never before been seen. Creeks bubble down impressive mountain ranges, swarming with life from deer, to bears, even small insects. The world of Skyrim is one shared with thousands of inhabitants.

One of the more dingy suburbs, yet still stunning..

The opening ‘quest’ is really the only part of the game I can actually criticise harshly. The whole thing is scripted and feels more like playing Call of Duty than The Elder Scrolls. I won’t go through the details but I was happy to find out that it’s the only section of the game where this scripted method is employed in such force.

Even small shacks like this have their own story and character..

Visuals:

As mentioned, the environment is incredible. I played on PC with every setting on the highest possible, recently including the official high-resolution texture pack which pushes the game into impressiveness on an ethereal level. Everywhere you go your eyes are confronted with an array of wondrous sights, seamlessly joining to make an utterly photo-real atmosphere perfectly rendering the fictitious country(?) of Skyrim.

The lighting for the most part is superb..

The character models, for the most part, are brilliant. Humanoid races, beasts and dragons in particular look stunning. All of the hundreds of weapons, armour, and items in the game look both aesthetically and technically marvelous, Bethesda making sure to add a degree of uniqueness to every different kind of metal and material.

Sexy fucking high resolution texture pack..!

Gameplay:

One thing that struck me after finishing all of the quest lines in Skyrim is the brief nature of the them. Sure, there are many, and they’re all varied enough to be incredibly satisfying and exciting, but it always seemed as though one minute you’re the new initiate of a faction, literally 4 or 5 quests later and you’re the leader! They’d be good quests, sure, but it didn’t really feel like you ever earned the right to lead.

Anyone who has played the game will recognise this scene.. ;)

An Elder Scrolls game truly shines, however, in its ability to allow the player to craft their own adventures within its living world. Literally around every bend is another mini-adventure waiting to be discovered, whether it be finding a lost journal or discovering a dead body, the game is always throwing things at you for you to explore and partake in.

The inclusion of the famous northern lights are welcome and give the sky a life not seen since Morrowind..

Sound:

The work of musical genius Jeremy Soule shalt never falter. He has characteristically delivered a beautiful sound track, matching the powerful, albeit beautiful environmental with strong, yet solemn pieces.

The juxtaposed atmosphere of the different environment keep your senses on toes..

Sound effects aren’t quite as mindblowing but are in no way adversarial to the atmosphere or impact. Insects chirp, wind blows through the trees and the dragons are necessarily loud and obnoxious, even when several kilometres away. The sound of a dragon’s roar echoing through the misty mountains of Skyrim is a sound you’re not going to forget easily.

My character is an archer, and a pretty good one. So this guy found out..

Overall Impressions:

Basically, if you can get this game, get it. It’s an experience like none other before it. There’s action, there’s adventure, there’s role playing. All delivered with the innate perfection expected of a Bethesda title. I guarantee you’ll be playing for hours and hours on end, it will make you happy, sad, nervous and excited. You’ll develop relationships with the characters, perhaps not to the degree of a Bioware title, but still notable. You’ll also, and more importantly, develop a relationship with the world itself.

It’s an awe-inspiring journey that should not be missed under any circumstances.

Photo 20 Feb 4 notes There comes a point in an upcoming games’ life where people get tired of previews and ‘news’. The point when people see the name in the headlines and just don’t give a fuck. Hardly any games reach this point, due to having a dedicated staff and focused developer heads. (Basically everyone except Blizzard and Valve.)Diablo III, I have reached that point. You’ve taken so long to get your clothes off, my boner ran away and now I just want to sleep.
